In den meisten F\u00e4llen sind Muttermale gutartig und m\u00fcssen nicht behandelt werden. Manchmal verwandeln sie sich jedoch in Hautkrebs. Die Anzahl der Muttermale im K\u00f6rper ist der st\u00e4rkste bekannte Risikofaktor f\u00fcr Melanome, eine Krebsart, die sich aus pigmentproduzierenden Zellen entwickelt. Diese Studie untersuchte die genetische Veranlagung zur Entwicklung von Muttermalen, indem sie die Genome von \u00fcber 1500 Personen europ\u00e4ischer Herkunft untersuchte. Die Studie entdeckte 2 genomische Regionen, die signifikant mit diesem Merkmal assoziiert sind.
