Um das Timing eines Herzschlags zu steuern, ist das Herz auf ein System angewiesen, das elektrische Signale an die Muskelzellen des Herzens sendet. Das Elektrokardiogramm oder EKG ist ein h\u00e4ufig verwendetes medizinisches Verfahren zur Messung der elektrischen Aktivit\u00e4t w\u00e4hrend eines Herzschlags. Das PR-Intervall ist die Zeit zwischen der Aktivierung der Vorh\u00f6fe des Herzens und der Aktivierung der Ventrikel. Eine normale PR-Intervalldauer liegt zwischen 0,12 und 0,20 Sekunden. Eine zu kurze, zu lange oder unregelm\u00e4\u00dfige PR-Intervalldauer kann ein Hinweis auf eine Herzerkrankung sein. Die genomweite Assoziationsstudie untersuchte fast 300.000 Personen europ\u00e4ischer, afrikanischer, hispanischer und brasilianischer Abstammung, um Varianten zu identifizieren, die mit der PR-Intervalldauer des Herzens zusammenh\u00e4ngen. Die Forscher identifizierten 202 Genomregionen, von denen 141 neu sind.
