Es besteht aus 4 Kammern: 2 Vorh\u00f6fe (links und rechts) und 2 Ventrikel (links und rechts). Mit Sauerstoff angereichertes Blut in der Lunge gelangt in das linke Atrium und flie\u00dft dann in den linken Ventrikel, von wo es in alle anderen K\u00f6rperteile gepumpt wird. Wenn sich der linke Ventrikel zusammenzieht, wird nicht alles Blut ausgesto\u00dfen und ein Teil verbleibt im Ventrikel. Die linksventrikul\u00e4re Ejektionsfraktion (LVEF) wird berechnet, indem das Blutvolumen, das den linken Ventrikel verl\u00e4sst, wenn sich die Herzmuskeln zusammenziehen, durch das Blutvolumen dividiert wird, das im linken Ventrikel verbleibt. Eine normale linksventrikul\u00e4re Ejektionsfraktion (LVEF) liegt zwischen 55% und 70%. Um genetische Varianten zu identifizieren, die mit LVEF assoziiert sind, untersuchte diese genomweite Assoziationsstudie \u00fcber 36.000 Personen europ\u00e4ischer Abstammung. Die Studie identifizierte 22 genetische Varianten, einschlie\u00dflich Varianten in der N\u00e4he von Genen, die f\u00fcr die Flexibilit\u00e4t des Herzmuskels (TTN) und der mit dem Immunsystem verbundenen Gene verantwortlich sind.
