Obwohl sie nicht krebsartig sind, k\u00f6nnen sie schlie\u00dflich eine Verstopfung des Nasengangs verursachen, was zu Atemproblemen und Geruchsverlust f\u00fchrt. Zum Zeitpunkt der Ver\u00f6ffentlichung dieser Studie waren keine genetischen Risikofaktoren f\u00fcr Nasenpolypen bekannt. Diese Studie untersuchte die Genome von \u00fcber 700.000 Personen europ\u00e4ischer Abstammung und entdeckte 10 genetische Varianten, viele nahe Gene, die bei Entz\u00fcndungen eine Rolle spielen.
