Studien haben gezeigt, dass das biologische Alter durch Messung von DNA-Modifikationen, sogenannten Methylierungen, im gesamten Genom gesch\u00e4tzt werden kann. Das Vorhandensein dieser altersbedingten Ver\u00e4nderungen wird sowohl von Umweltfaktoren (z. B. Lebensstil) als auch von genetischen Faktoren beeinflusst. Diese genomweite Assoziationsstudie untersuchte die Genome von fast 13.500 Personen europ\u00e4ischer Abstammung und entdeckte 10 genetische Varianten, die mit DNA-Methylierungsprofilen assoziiert sind, die mit einer beschleunigten biologischen Alterung verbunden sind.
