Sie kann durch Messung verschiedener Parameter bewertet werden. Ein Parameter der Lungenfunktion ist das maximale Luftvolumen, das nach einem tiefen Atemzug abgelaufen werden kann, auch als forcierte Vitalkapazit\u00e4t (FVC) bezeichnet. Ein weiterer Parameter ist das Luftvolumen, das in der ersten Sekunde des Ausatmens abgelaufen werden kann, das als erzwungenes Ausatmungsvolumen in 1 Sekunde (FEV1) bezeichnet wird. Ein niedriges FEV1 \/ FVC-Verh\u00e4ltnis ist ein Indikator f\u00fcr chronisch obstruktive Lungenerkrankungen (COPD). Diese genomweite Assoziationsstudie untersuchte \u00fcber 400.000 Personen europ\u00e4ischer Abstammung und identifizierte 155 genetische Varianten, die mit dem FEV1 \/ FVC-Verh\u00e4ltnis assoziiert sind.
