Es wirkt als Entz\u00fcndungsquelle f\u00fcr die Organe und kann zu einem erh\u00f6hten Risiko f\u00fcr Herz-Kreislauf- und Stoffwechselerkrankungen wie Erkrankungen der Herzkranzgef\u00e4\u00dfe und Diabetes f\u00fchren. Bei der Untersuchung genetischer Daten von fast 400.000 Personen europ\u00e4ischer Abstammung wurden 102 neue Varianten entdeckt, die zum Risiko einer Ansammlung von viszeralem Fettgewebe beitragen k\u00f6nnen.
