Es entsteht, wenn der Sehnerv, der das Auge mit dem Gehirn verbindet, besch\u00e4digt wird, h\u00e4ufig infolge eines erh\u00f6hten Drucks im Auge. Eine Methode, um das Fortschreiten des Glaukoms zu stoppen, besteht darin, diesen Druck zu verringern. Diese genomweite Assoziationsstudie mit \u00fcber 130.000 Teilnehmern europ\u00e4ischer Abstammung identifizierte 24 genetische Varianten, die mit einem erh\u00f6hten Augeninnendruck und dem Risiko f\u00fcr die Entwicklung dieser Erkrankung verbunden sind.
