Eine Gruppe von Gehirnregionen, die sich tief im Gehirn befinden, werden als &#8222;subkortikale Strukturen&#8220; bezeichnet. Diese Strukturen, zu denen Amygdala, Hypophyse, Hirnstamm und andere geh\u00f6ren, spielen eine entscheidende Rolle f\u00fcr Lernen, Ged\u00e4chtnis und Emotionen. Ver\u00e4nderungen subkortikaler Strukturen sind jedoch auch mit verschiedenen kognitiven und psychischen St\u00f6rungen verbunden. Diese Studie zielte darauf ab, die genetischen Varianten, die mit dem Volumen subkortikaler Gehirnstrukturen und seiner Beziehung zur Entwicklung neurologischer St\u00f6rungen verbunden sind, besser zu verstehen. Durch die Untersuchung des Genoms von fast 40.000 Personen europ\u00e4ischer Abstammung wurden 48 genetische Varianten identifiziert, die mit dem Volumen verschiedener subkortikaler Strukturen im Gehirn korrelieren.
