In den Niederlanden betr\u00e4gt die durchschnittliche K\u00f6rpergr\u00f6\u00dfe f\u00fcr M\u00e4nner und Frauen 6 Fu\u00df bzw. 5 Fu\u00df 7 Zoll. Auf der anderen Seite des Ozeans sind M\u00e4nner und Frauen in Peru im Durchschnitt 5 Fu\u00df 5 Zoll und 4 Fu\u00df 11 Zoll gro\u00df. W\u00e4hrend Umweltfaktoren zu H\u00f6henunterschieden beitragen, haben Studien an Zwillingen gesch\u00e4tzt, dass fast 86% der K\u00f6rpergr\u00f6\u00dfe einer Person auf die Genetik zur\u00fcckzuf\u00fchren sind. Diese Studie zielte darauf ab, die Genetik der famili\u00e4ren Kleinwuchsform zu verstehen, die definiert ist als eine Kleinwuchsform von mehr als 97% der Menschen gleichen Alters und Geschlechts. Die Forscher untersuchten das Genom von 1.163 Personen Han-chinesischer Abstammung, bei denen famili\u00e4re Kleinwuchs diagnostiziert wurde. Die Studie entdeckte 10 neuartige genetische Varianten, die bisher nicht mit der allgemeinen K\u00f6rpergr\u00f6\u00dfe in Verbindung gebracht wurden. Zum Beispiel entwickeln gr\u00f6\u00dfere Frauen h\u00e4ufiger Brustkrebs mit einem um 1,2% erh\u00f6hten Risiko pro 4 Zoll K\u00f6rpergr\u00f6\u00dfe.
