Es ist bekannt, dass eines der beteiligten Gene, ATOH8, eine Rolle bei der Entwicklung des Gehirns, der Nieren und anderer Organe spielt. Eine andere Variante befindet sich zwischen zwei Genen: NPY und MPP6.
