Um genetische Varianten zu identifizieren, die signifikant mit PTBS assoziiert sind, untersuchte diese Studie die genetischen Daten von 761 kaukasischen und afroamerikanischen Veteranen. Die bedeutendste Variante, die sie fanden, war das RORA-Gen, das in anderen Studien als eine Rolle bei verhaltensrelevanten Prozessen und psychiatrischen St\u00f6rungen identifiziert wurde. Dar\u00fcber hinaus spielt RORA eine Rolle bei der Regulierung des zirkadianen Rhythmus, der Hormone und der Gehirnentwicklung.
