Solche Blutgerinnsel k\u00f6nnen den Blutfluss blockieren und zu einer schmerzhaften Schwellung der Gliedma\u00dfen f\u00fchren. Die Blutgerinnsel k\u00f6nnen auch in die Lunge gelangen, was zu einer Lungenembolie f\u00fchrt, einem gef\u00e4hrlichen Zustand, der mit einer hohen Mortalit\u00e4t verbunden ist. Um genetische Faktoren, die zum Risiko einer ven\u00f6sen Thromboembolie beitragen, besser zu verstehen, untersuchte diese genomweite Assoziationsstudie \u00fcber 650.000 Personen europ\u00e4ischer, afrikanischer und hispanischer Abstammung und entdeckte 22 neue genetische Varianten.
