En la mayor\u00eda de los casos, los lunares son benignos y no requieren tratamiento. Sin embargo, a veces se convierten en c\u00e1ncer de piel. El recuento de lunares en el cuerpo es el factor de riesgo m\u00e1s fuerte conocido para el melanoma, un tipo de c\u00e1ncer que se desarrolla a partir de c\u00e9lulas productoras de pigmento. Este estudio examin\u00f3 la predisposici\u00f3n gen\u00e9tica a desarrollar lunares al examinar los genomas de m\u00e1s de 1500 individuos de ascendencia europea. El estudio descubri\u00f3 2 regiones gen\u00f3micas que est\u00e1n significativamente asociadas con este rasgo. Las variantes gen\u00e9ticas en estas regiones tambi\u00e9n se han relacionado directamente con el melanoma en estudios anteriores. <\/p>\n\n<p><strong>\u00bfSAB\u00cdAS?<\/strong> La mayor\u00eda de las personas tienen de 10 a 40 lunares.
