Desempe\u00f1a un papel fundamental en el control del metabolismo del cuerpo al regular la rapidez con la que quemamos calor\u00edas y muchas otras cosas. La tiroides en s\u00ed est\u00e1 controlada por la gl\u00e1ndula pituitaria, que se encuentra en el cerebro, y libera la hormona estimulante de la tiroides (TSH) que estimula la acci\u00f3n de la tiroides. Los niveles de TSH se usan com\u00fanmente para diagnosticar una variedad de trastornos de la tiroides, que incluyen hipotiroidismo, hipertiroidismo y c\u00e1ncer de tiroides. Este estudio de asociaci\u00f3n de todo el genoma examin\u00f3 a casi 120.000 individuos de ascendencia europea para comprender mejor c\u00f3mo la gen\u00e9tica puede influir en los niveles de TSH.
