Su concentraci\u00f3n en sangre est\u00e1 controlada por la hormona insulina que se produce en el p\u00e1ncreas. La insulina promueve la ingesta de az\u00facar en sangre por parte de las c\u00e9lulas del cuerpo, lo que reduce su concentraci\u00f3n en la sangre. La diabetes tipo 2 ocurre cuando las c\u00e9lulas no responden a la insulina y \/ o el p\u00e1ncreas no produce suficiente insulina. Esto resulta en un aumento de la concentraci\u00f3n de glucosa en sangre que da\u00f1a los \u00f3rganos, nervios y vasos sangu\u00edneos.
