Consta de 4 c\u00e1maras: 2 aur\u00edculas (izquierda y derecha) y 2 ventr\u00edculos (izquierda y derecha). La sangre que se ha enriquecido con ox\u00edgeno en los pulmones ingresa a la aur\u00edcula izquierda y luego fluye hacia el ventr\u00edculo izquierdo desde donde se bombea a todas las dem\u00e1s partes del cuerpo. Cuando el ventr\u00edculo izquierdo se contrae, no se expulsa toda la sangre y parte permanece dentro del ventr\u00edculo. La fracci\u00f3n de eyecci\u00f3n del ventr\u00edculo izquierdo (FEVI) se calcula dividiendo el volumen de sangre que sale del ventr\u00edculo izquierdo cuando los m\u00fasculos del coraz\u00f3n se contraen por el volumen de sangre que queda dentro del ventr\u00edculo izquierdo. Una fracci\u00f3n de eyecci\u00f3n del ventr\u00edculo izquierdo (FEVI) normal oscila entre el 55% y el 70%. Para identificar las variantes gen\u00e9ticas asociadas con la FEVI, este estudio de asociaci\u00f3n de todo el genoma examin\u00f3 a m\u00e1s de 36.000 individuos de ascendencia europea. El estudio identific\u00f3 22 variantes gen\u00e9ticas, incluidas variantes cercanas a los genes que son responsables de la flexibilidad del m\u00fasculo card\u00edaco (TTN) y genes asociados con el sistema inmunol\u00f3gico.
