M\u00e1s espec\u00edficamente, las prote\u00ednas son m\u00e1quinas moleculares que cumplen muchas funciones dentro y fuera de las c\u00e9lulas. Las prote\u00ednas est\u00e1n hechas de 20 componentes b\u00e1sicos conocidos como amino\u00e1cidos. Si bien nuestros cuerpos pueden producir 11 de los 20 amino\u00e1cidos, los 9 restantes deben consumirse a trav\u00e9s de los alimentos que comemos. En promedio, las personas consumen aproximadamente 7 gramos de prote\u00edna por cada 20 libras de peso corporal por d\u00eda. Si bien las prote\u00ednas son esenciales, el consumo excesivo de prote\u00ednas puede provocar trastornos metab\u00f3licos, como obesidad y diabetes. Para identificar variantes gen\u00e9ticas que pueden afectar la cantidad de prote\u00edna que consume un individuo, este estudio de asociaci\u00f3n de todo el genoma examin\u00f3 los genomas de m\u00e1s de 260.000 individuos de ascendencia europea. El estudio identific\u00f3 7 variantes gen\u00e9ticas asociadas con el consumo de prote\u00ednas. Se encontr\u00f3 que la predisposici\u00f3n gen\u00e9tica a un mayor consumo de prote\u00ednas se correlacion\u00f3 con la obesidad, la diabetes tipo 2, las enfermedades card\u00edacas y el \u00edndice de masa corporal (IMC). Los autores plantean la hip\u00f3tesis de que el consumo de prote\u00edna animal, a diferencia del consumo de prote\u00edna vegetal, probablemente est\u00e9 impulsando la correlaci\u00f3n positiva con la mala salud.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>\u00bfSAB\u00cdAS?<\/strong> Si bien hay investigaciones contradictorias sobre si el consumo de carne roja es da\u00f1ino o no, la mayor\u00eda de la evidencia respalda el alto consumo de carne roja que contribuye a varios riesgos para la salud.
