La funci\u00f3n de las c\u00e9lulas gliales es proteger y apoyar el sistema nervioso. Los gliomas son una forma de c\u00e1ncer que resulta del crecimiento descontrolado de las c\u00e9lulas gliales. Para identificar las variantes de riesgo de esta enfermedad, este estudio examin\u00f3 la informaci\u00f3n gen\u00e9tica de m\u00e1s de 11.000 personas de ascendencia europea occidental. Se descubrieron cinco variantes asociadas a este tipo de c\u00e1ncer. Las variantes se vincularon a genes que desempe\u00f1an un papel en el mantenimiento de la estabilidad gen\u00f3mica.
