Los s\u00edntomas t\u00edpicos son escalofr\u00edos, fiebre alta y, en casos graves, insuficiencia org\u00e1nica. La Organizaci\u00f3n Mundial de la Salud estim\u00f3 219 millones de casos de malaria en 2017, con un n\u00famero estimado de muertes en un total de 435.000. Este estudio busc\u00f3 identificar las regiones gen\u00f3micas asociadas con la resistencia al paludismo grave. Utilizando ADN de m\u00e1s de 17.000 personas de \u00c1frica, Asia y Ocean\u00eda, los investigadores identificaron 5 variantes gen\u00e9ticas. En conjunto, estas variantes explican aproximadamente el 10% de la heredabilidad de la resistencia a la malaria grave. Una de las variantes gen\u00e9ticas identificadas se encuentra en el gen ATP2B4, que parece desempe\u00f1ar un papel en la infecci\u00f3n de los gl\u00f3bulos rojos con par\u00e1sitos de la malaria.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>\u00bfSAB\u00cdAS?<\/strong> La anemia de c\u00e9lulas falciformes es un trastorno sangu\u00edneo hereditario que se caracteriza por gl\u00f3bulos rojos que pueden adoptar una forma similar a una hoz.
