Si bien los factores ambientales (por ejemplo, culturales y econ\u00f3micos) est\u00e1n fuertemente vinculados al comportamiento reproductivo, se cree que la gen\u00e9tica explica hasta un 50%. Este estudio de asociaci\u00f3n de todo el genoma de casi 700,000 individuos de ascendencia europea encontr\u00f3 10 variantes asociadas con la edad al primer nacimiento, una medida de comportamiento reproductivo com\u00fanmente utilizada. La mayor\u00eda de las variantes descubiertas son mucho m\u00e1s significativas en mujeres que en hombres. Varias variantes est\u00e1n cerca de genes que tienen funciones en la producci\u00f3n de espermatozoides y \u00f3vulos, as\u00ed como en el proceso de fertilizaci\u00f3n cuando un espermatozoide y un \u00f3vulo se fusionan.
