Cuando los ri\u00f1ones se da\u00f1an, las prote\u00ednas importantes que normalmente permanecen en la sangre pueden filtrarse a la orina. El aumento de los niveles urinarios de una de estas prote\u00ednas, la alb\u00famina, se usa para diagnosticar la enfermedad renal cr\u00f3nica. Hasta la fecha, solo se han identificado algunos factores de riesgo gen\u00e9ticos que contribuyen al aumento de los niveles de alb\u00famina en la orina. Este estudio trans\u00e9tnico examin\u00f3 a m\u00e1s de 560.000 personas de ascendencia europea, africana, asi\u00e1tica del este, sur de Asia e hispana para mejorar nuestra comprensi\u00f3n de la predisposici\u00f3n gen\u00e9tica al da\u00f1o renal. El estudio identific\u00f3 68 variantes gen\u00e9ticas asociadas con niveles elevados de prote\u00ednas de alb\u00famina en la orina. Estas variantes ayudan a explicar menos del 1% de la heredabilidad de la albuminuria.
