Dichos co\u00e1gulos de sangre pueden bloquear el flujo sangu\u00edneo y provocar una inflamaci\u00f3n dolorosa de las extremidades. Los co\u00e1gulos de sangre tambi\u00e9n pueden viajar a los pulmones, lo que resulta en una embolia pulmonar, una condici\u00f3n peligrosa asociada con una alta mortalidad. Para comprender mejor los factores gen\u00e9ticos que contribuyen al riesgo de tromboembolismo venoso, este estudio de asociaci\u00f3n de todo el genoma examin\u00f3 a m\u00e1s de 650.000 individuos de ascendencia europea, africana e hispana y descubri\u00f3 22 nuevas variantes gen\u00e9ticas.
