Se caracteriza por pliegues que aumentan su superficie. Para identificar variantes gen\u00e9ticas asociadas con el \u00e1rea de superficie cortical humana, este estudio combin\u00f3 datos gen\u00e9ticos con datos de im\u00e1genes cerebrales de m\u00e1s de 50.000 personas. El estudio descubri\u00f3 m\u00e1s de 250 regiones gen\u00e9ticas, que en conjunto explican aproximadamente el 34% de la heredabilidad de la superficie cortical.
