C&rsquo;est la principale cause de d\u00e9c\u00e8s li\u00e9s au cancer aux \u00c9tats-Unis. Il existe deux principaux types de cancer du poumon: le cancer du poumon \u00e0 petites cellules et le cancer non \u00e0 petites cellules, ce dernier repr\u00e9sentant 80 \u00e0 85% de tous les cancers du poumon. Bien que le tabagisme soit le facteur de risque le plus courant associ\u00e9 \u00e0 la maladie, on pense \u00e9galement que la g\u00e9n\u00e9tique joue un r\u00f4le. Par cons\u00e9quent, en examinant ~ 85 000 g\u00e9nomes, cette \u00e9tude visait \u00e0 comprendre les facteurs g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques associ\u00e9s au risque de d\u00e9velopper ce cancer. Les chercheurs ont identifi\u00e9 18 variantes g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques associ\u00e9es \u00e0 la maladie, dont 10 sont nouvelles. Parmi les nouvelles r\u00e9gions, 4 sont associ\u00e9es au cancer du poumon en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral. Certaines de ces r\u00e9gions \u00e9taient auparavant associ\u00e9es \u00e0 la toxicomanie et au tabagisme. Dans l&rsquo;ensemble, les variantes g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques identifi\u00e9es contribuent \u00e0 expliquer 8,9% de l&rsquo;h\u00e9ritabilit\u00e9 de ce cancer. <\/p>\n\n<p><strong>LE SAVIEZ-VOUS?<\/strong> Alors que le tabagisme est la principale cause de cancer du poumon, l&rsquo;exposition au radon, un gaz radioactif invisible, contribue \u00e9galement au risque. Le radon est lib\u00e9r\u00e9 de la d\u00e9sint\u00e9gration normale des \u00e9l\u00e9ments uranium, thorium et radium dans les roches et le sol. Les maisons construites sur un sol riche en ces \u00e9l\u00e9ments peuvent avoir des niveaux de radon plus \u00e9lev\u00e9s dans l&rsquo;air. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"
