Sa concentration dans le sang est contr\u00f4l\u00e9e par l&rsquo;hormone insuline produite dans le pancr\u00e9as. L&rsquo;insuline favorise l&rsquo;apport de sucre dans le sang par les cellules du corps, ce qui r\u00e9duit sa concentration dans le sang. Le diab\u00e8te de type 2 survient lorsque les cellules ne r\u00e9pondent pas \u00e0 l&rsquo;insuline et \/ ou que le pancr\u00e9as ne produit pas suffisamment d&rsquo;insuline. Cela entra\u00eene une augmentation de la concentration de glucose dans le sang qui endommage les organes, les nerfs et les vaisseaux sanguins. La plupart des \u00e9tudes pr\u00e9c\u00e9dentes ont examin\u00e9 la pr\u00e9disposition g\u00e9n\u00e9tique \u00e0 la maladie dans les populations europ\u00e9ennes, manquant potentiellement de nombreuses variantes g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques moins courantes chez les individus d&rsquo;ascendance europ\u00e9enne. En outre, des recherches ant\u00e9rieures ont montr\u00e9 qu&rsquo;en tenant compte de l&rsquo;IMC, les personnes d&rsquo;Asie de l&rsquo;Est ont des taux de diab\u00e8te plus \u00e9lev\u00e9s que les Europ\u00e9ens. Ainsi, cette \u00e9tude s&rsquo;est int\u00e9ress\u00e9e au diab\u00e8te de type 2 chez les personnes d&rsquo;ascendance est-asiatique: 77 418 personnes atteintes de la maladie et 356 122 t\u00e9moins sains. L&rsquo;\u00e9tude a identifi\u00e9 301 variantes g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques \u00e0 travers 183 emplacements g\u00e9nomiques, dont 61 sont nouveaux. De plus, la plupart des variantes identifi\u00e9es ont eu une influence similaire sur le risque de maladie chez les Europ\u00e9ens. <\/p>\n\n<p><strong>LE SAVIEZ-VOUS?<\/strong> L&rsquo;indice glyc\u00e9mique est une mesure de la vitesse \u00e0 laquelle un type d&rsquo;aliment provoquera une augmentation de la glyc\u00e9mie.
