Il se compose de 4 chambres: 2 oreillettes (gauche et droite) et 2 ventricules (gauche et droite). Le sang qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 enrichi en oxyg\u00e8ne dans les poumons p\u00e9n\u00e8tre dans l&rsquo;oreillette gauche puis s&rsquo;\u00e9coule dans le ventricule gauche d&rsquo;o\u00f9 il est pomp\u00e9 vers toutes les autres parties du corps. Le volume end-systolique ventriculaire gauche (LVESV) est le volume de sang qui reste dans le ventricule gauche \u00e0 l&rsquo;extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 d&rsquo;une pompe. Le LVESV moyen est de 41 ml pour les femmes et de 58 ml pour les hommes et peut \u00eatre utilis\u00e9 comme mesure de la sant\u00e9 cardiaque. Cette \u00e9tude d&rsquo;association pang\u00e9nomique a examin\u00e9 les g\u00e9nomes de 36 000 individus d&rsquo;ascendance europ\u00e9enne pour mieux comprendre la base g\u00e9n\u00e9tique du LVESV. L&rsquo;\u00e9tude a identifi\u00e9 28 r\u00e9gions g\u00e9nomiques associ\u00e9es au LVESV ajust\u00e9es pour la surface corporelle. L&rsquo;\u00e9tude a \u00e9galement r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 qu&rsquo;un score polyg\u00e9nique \u00e9lev\u00e9 pour le LVESV ajust\u00e9 \u00e0 la surface corporelle \u00e9tait fortement corr\u00e9l\u00e9 au risque de cardiomyopathie dilat\u00e9e.
