Certains aliments, comme les fruits, contiennent des sucres naturels. D&rsquo;autre part, les sucres sont \u00e9galement couramment ajout\u00e9s aux aliments tels que les p\u00e2tisseries et les boissons gazeuses. L&rsquo;Am\u00e9ricain moyen consomme 22 cuill\u00e8res \u00e0 caf\u00e9 (88 grammes) de sucre ajout\u00e9 par jour, tandis que les nutritionnistes ne recommandent pas plus de 9 cuill\u00e8res \u00e0 caf\u00e9 (36 grammes) par jour. Trop de sucre dans l&rsquo;alimentation peut entra\u00eener un risque accru de diab\u00e8te, de carie dentaire et d&rsquo;autres maladies. Pour identifier les variantes g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques susceptibles d&rsquo;affecter la quantit\u00e9 de sucre consomm\u00e9e par un individu, cette \u00e9tude a examin\u00e9 les g\u00e9nomes de plus de 260 000 individus d&rsquo;ascendance europ\u00e9enne. L&rsquo;\u00e9tude a trouv\u00e9 10 variantes g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques associ\u00e9es \u00e0 la consommation de sucre. Quelques-unes de ces variantes \u00e9taient \u00e9galement li\u00e9es aux niveaux de consommation d&rsquo;autres macronutriments, tels que les graisses et les prot\u00e9ines. Fait int\u00e9ressant, l&rsquo;\u00e9tude a r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 qu&rsquo;une consommation accrue de sucre \u00e9tait corr\u00e9l\u00e9e \u00e0 une diminution du tour de taille et \u00e0 une augmentation de l&rsquo;activit\u00e9 physique.
