Elle est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement caus\u00e9e par l&rsquo;accumulation de plaque (provenant des graisses, du cholest\u00e9rol ou d&rsquo;autres substances) dans les art\u00e8res et peut entra\u00eener une crise cardiaque ou un accident vasculaire c\u00e9r\u00e9bral. Une pr\u00e9disposition \u00e0 la maladie art\u00e9rielle p\u00e9riph\u00e9rique est connue pour \u00eatre influenc\u00e9e par la g\u00e9n\u00e9tique, mais peu de variantes ont \u00e9t\u00e9 identifi\u00e9es. Cette \u00e9tude a recherch\u00e9 des variantes g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques qui augmentent le risque de MAP chez 243 060 v\u00e9t\u00e9rans militaires d&rsquo;ascendance europ\u00e9enne, africaine et hispanique. Bon nombre des variantes identifi\u00e9es \u00e9taient \u00e9galement associ\u00e9es \u00e0 des taux sanguins plus \u00e9lev\u00e9s de cholest\u00e9rol \u00e0 lipoprot\u00e9ines de basse densit\u00e9 (LDL). Le cholest\u00e9rol LDL est souvent appel\u00e9 \u00abmauvais\u00bb cholest\u00e9rol et peut provoquer la formation de plaques dans les art\u00e8res.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>LE SAVIEZ-VOUS?<\/strong> Vous pouvez r\u00e9duire votre taux de cholest\u00e9rol LDL (et donc votre risque de PAD) en \u00e9liminant les gras trans (huile partiellement hydrog\u00e9n\u00e9e) de votre alimentation. Perdre du poids, faire de l&rsquo;exercice r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement et limiter votre consommation d&rsquo;alcool peut \u00e9galement r\u00e9duire votre taux de cholest\u00e9rol LDL et votre risque de MAP.
