Alors que toutes les cellules ont besoin de fer, la majeure partie du fer du corps est utilis\u00e9e par les globules rouges o\u00f9 il facilite le transport de l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne. Alors que de faibles niveaux de fer peuvent entra\u00eener des maladies, des niveaux \u00e9lev\u00e9s de fer sont \u00e9galement dangereux. L&rsquo;h\u00e9mochromatose est une maladie caract\u00e9ris\u00e9e par des taux de fer \u00e9lev\u00e9s et des dommages au foie et au c\u0153ur. Les niveaux de fer corporel sont connus pour \u00eatre un trait h\u00e9r\u00e9ditaire. Jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 30% de la variance entre les individus peut \u00eatre expliqu\u00e9e par la g\u00e9n\u00e9tique. Cette \u00e9tude d&rsquo;association \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9chelle du g\u00e9nome a examin\u00e9 pr\u00e8s de 50 000 personnes d&rsquo;origine europ\u00e9enne pour identifier les marqueurs associ\u00e9s aux taux de fer sanguin. L&rsquo;\u00e9tude a r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 6 r\u00e9gions g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques li\u00e9es aux niveaux de fer dans le sang. Il a d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9montr\u00e9 que certaines de ces r\u00e9gions jouent un r\u00f4le dans la fonction des globules rouges.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>LE SAVIEZ-VOUS?<\/strong> En plus de la pr\u00e9disposition g\u00e9n\u00e9tique, des niveaux \u00e9lev\u00e9s de fer peuvent \u00eatre le r\u00e9sultat de diverses conditions m\u00e9dicales, y compris diff\u00e9rents types de maladies du foie.
