Chez les adultes, la fr\u00e9quence cardiaque au repos est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement de 60 \u00e0 100 battements par minute. Une fr\u00e9quence cardiaque au repos plus basse indique un fonctionnement plus efficace du c\u0153ur et une meilleure sant\u00e9. Les personnes physiquement tr\u00e8s en forme, par exemple les coureurs professionnels, peuvent avoir une fr\u00e9quence cardiaque au repos aussi basse que 40 battements par minute! \u00c0 l&rsquo;inverse, une fr\u00e9quence cardiaque au repos \u00e9lev\u00e9e peut \u00eatre un pr\u00e9dicteur d&rsquo;hypertension art\u00e9rielle, de maladie cardiaque et d&rsquo;insuffisance cardiaque. Cette \u00e9tude visait \u00e0 mieux comprendre l&rsquo;influence g\u00e9n\u00e9tique sur le trait en analysant les g\u00e9nomes de plus de 265 000 individus de diverses origines. L&rsquo;\u00e9tude a identifi\u00e9 64 locus g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques, dont 46 nouveaux locus, qui sont en corr\u00e9lation avec la fr\u00e9quence cardiaque au repos. Ensemble, toutes les variantes g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques identifi\u00e9es expliquent environ 2,5% de la variance totale du caract\u00e8re. L&rsquo;\u00e9tude a \u00e9galement r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 qu&rsquo;une fr\u00e9quence cardiaque au repos \u00e9lev\u00e9e est li\u00e9e \u00e0 un risque de mortalit\u00e9 accru.
