Les femelles ont deux chromosomes X, tandis que les m\u00e2les ont un chromosome Y et un chromosome X. Chez les hommes, la perte du chromosome Y dans certaines cellules du corps, en particulier les globules blancs, a \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9c\u00e9demment associ\u00e9e \u00e0 de multiples conditions m\u00e9dicales, notamment divers cancers, maladies auto-immunes, diab\u00e8te et maladies cardiovasculaires. Pour d\u00e9terminer les facteurs g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques qui peuvent pr\u00e9disposer un homme \u00e0 la perte du chromosome Y, cette \u00e9tude a examin\u00e9 les g\u00e9nomes de plus de 750 000 hommes d&rsquo;ascendance europ\u00e9enne et japonaise. Une perte d\u00e9tectable du chromosome Y \u00e9tait pr\u00e9sente chez environ 20% des hommes participant \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9tude. L&rsquo;\u00e9tude a identifi\u00e9 156 variantes, dont 137 sont nouvelles, qui, ensemble, expliquent plus de 30% de l&rsquo;h\u00e9ritabilit\u00e9 de la perte du chromosome Y.
