Il ne pr\u00e9sente pas les premiers sympt\u00f4mes (aura) des autres types de migraines, tels que des \u00e9tourdissements, des picotements cutan\u00e9s ou une faiblesse. Ils semblent \u00eatre h\u00e9r\u00e9ditaires, mais peu de variantes g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques ont \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9couvertes. Cette \u00e9tude a identifi\u00e9 plusieurs variantes g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques associ\u00e9es \u00e0 cette condition chez 6 906 individus allemands et hollandais, dont les plus significatifs \u00e9taient dans les g\u00e8nes MEF2D, PHACTR1 et ASTN2, ainsi qu&rsquo;un proche du g\u00e8ne TGFBR2. MEF2D est fortement exprim\u00e9 dans le cerveau et aide les neurones \u00e0 se former et \u00e0 envoyer des signaux. PHACTR1 joue un r\u00f4le dans l&rsquo;activit\u00e9 synaptique (les synapses permettent aux neurones de transmettre des signaux \u00e0 d&rsquo;autres cellules). Le produit du g\u00e8ne ASTN2 aide les neurones \u00e0 se d\u00e9placer guid\u00e9s par les cellules gliales, qui sont des cellules qui entourent les neurones et fournissent un soutien.
