Les sympt\u00f4mes typiques sont des frissons, une forte fi\u00e8vre et, dans les cas graves, une d\u00e9faillance d&rsquo;organe. L&rsquo;Organisation mondiale de la sant\u00e9 a estim\u00e9 219 millions de cas de paludisme en 2017, avec un nombre estim\u00e9 de d\u00e9c\u00e8s \u00e0 435000. Cette \u00e9tude visait \u00e0 identifier les r\u00e9gions g\u00e9nomiques associ\u00e9es \u00e0 la r\u00e9sistance au paludisme grave. En utilisant l&rsquo;ADN de plus de 17 000 individus d&rsquo;Afrique, d&rsquo;Asie et d&rsquo;Oc\u00e9anie, les chercheurs ont identifi\u00e9 5 variantes g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques. Collectivement, ces variantes expliquent environ 10% de l&rsquo;h\u00e9ritabilit\u00e9 de la r\u00e9sistance au paludisme grave. L&rsquo;une des variantes g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques identifi\u00e9es est localis\u00e9e dans le g\u00e8ne ATP2B4, qui semble jouer un r\u00f4le dans l&rsquo;infection des globules rouges par des parasites du paludisme.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>LE SAVIEZ-VOUS?<\/strong> La dr\u00e9panocytose est une maladie h\u00e9r\u00e9ditaire du sang qui se caract\u00e9rise par des globules rouges qui peuvent prendre la forme d&rsquo;une faucille. He earned an M.S. and is currently a Ph.D. Candidate in the Biological and Biomedical Sciences (BBS) Ph.D. program at Harvard University.\u00a0He has experience in science policy as an intern at the Science and Innovation Network where he assisted in the science diplomacy functions of the British Consulate-General and as a research associate at TScan Therapeutics.
