C&rsquo;est un trait complexe h\u00e9r\u00e9ditaire, mais seuls quelques variants g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques associ\u00e9s ont \u00e9t\u00e9 identifi\u00e9s \u00e0 ce jour. Cette association \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9chelle du g\u00e9nome a examin\u00e9 480 842 individus d&rsquo;ascendance europ\u00e9enne et d\u00e9couvert 46 nouvelles variantes g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques associ\u00e9es \u00e0 la consommation d&rsquo;alcool. L&rsquo;\u00e9tude a \u00e9galement estim\u00e9 que ces variantes expliquent environ 9% de l&rsquo;h\u00e9ritabilit\u00e9 de la consommation d&rsquo;alcool. En outre, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9montr\u00e9 que de multiples variantes affectent l&rsquo;activit\u00e9 des g\u00e8nes dans le cerveau et beaucoup ont \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9c\u00e9demment associ\u00e9es \u00e0 des conditions neuropsychiatriques telles que la schizophr\u00e9nie, la maladie de Parkinson et la d\u00e9mence.
