Normalement, l&rsquo;acide urique circule dans le sang jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 ce qu&rsquo;il soit filtr\u00e9 par les reins, pour finalement \u00eatre excr\u00e9t\u00e9 dans l&rsquo;urine. Lorsque le corps ne traite pas efficacement l&rsquo;acide urique, il peut s&rsquo;accumuler dans les articulations et les reins, provoquant la goutte et les calculs r\u00e9naux. Le risque d&rsquo;accumulation d&rsquo;acide urique chez une personne est connu pour \u00eatre h\u00e9r\u00e9ditaire, mais peu de locus g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques ont \u00e9t\u00e9 trouv\u00e9s. Cette \u00e9tude d&rsquo;association pang\u00e9nomique a examin\u00e9 plus de 450 000 individus d&rsquo;ascendance afro-am\u00e9ricaine, asiatique de l&rsquo;est, europ\u00e9enne, hispanique et sud-asiatique. Il a identifi\u00e9 183 r\u00e9gions g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques, dont 147 sont nouvelles, qui sont corr\u00e9l\u00e9es \u00e0 un risque accru de goutte. Ces variantes expliquent collectivement une estimation de 8% de l&rsquo;h\u00e9ritabilit\u00e9 dans la production d&rsquo;acide urique.
