Un ensemble de r\u00e9gions c\u00e9r\u00e9brales r\u00e9sidant profond\u00e9ment dans le cerveau est appel\u00e9 \u00abstructures sous-corticales\u00bb. Ces structures, qui comprennent l&rsquo;amygdale, la glande pituitaire, le tronc c\u00e9r\u00e9bral et d&rsquo;autres, jouent un r\u00f4le essentiel dans l&rsquo;apprentissage, la m\u00e9moire et les \u00e9motions. Cependant, les modifications des structures sous-corticales sont \u00e9galement li\u00e9es \u00e0 divers troubles cognitifs et psychologiques. Cette \u00e9tude visait \u00e0 mieux comprendre les variantes g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques associ\u00e9es au volume des structures c\u00e9r\u00e9brales sous-corticales et \u00e0 sa relation avec le d\u00e9veloppement de troubles neurologiques. En examinant les g\u00e9nomes de pr\u00e8s de 40 000 individus d&rsquo;ascendance europ\u00e9enne, cette \u00e9tude a identifi\u00e9 48 variantes g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques qui sont en corr\u00e9lation avec le volume de diverses structures sous-corticales dans le cerveau. Ces variantes sont proches de g\u00e8nes qui ont un large \u00e9ventail de fonctions, allant du contr\u00f4le du flux d&rsquo;informations dans notre syst\u00e8me nerveux au neurod\u00e9veloppement en passant par l&rsquo;inflammation.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>LE SAVIEZ-VOUS?<\/strong> Une structure sous-corticale appel\u00e9e l&rsquo;amygdale est la principale r\u00e9gion impliqu\u00e9e dans la fa\u00e7on dont nous r\u00e9agissons aux sentiments de stress, de peur et d&rsquo;anxi\u00e9t\u00e9. Lors d&rsquo;une r\u00e9ponse \u00abcombat ou fuite\u00bb, l&rsquo;amygdale prend le pas sur les parties les plus rationnelles et logiques du cerveau.
