Cependant, il r\u00e9gule les fonctions corporelles, comme le d\u00e9veloppement musculaire et la fertilit\u00e9, chez les deux sexes. Cette \u00e9tude a examin\u00e9 plus de 425 000 personnes d&rsquo;ascendance europ\u00e9enne de la base de donn\u00e9es britannique Biobank pour identifier les facteurs g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques associ\u00e9s aux niveaux de testost\u00e9rone. Les chercheurs ont li\u00e9 plus de 200 variantes g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques aux niveaux de testost\u00e9rone chez les deux sexes. Ces variantes expliquent 17% de l&rsquo;h\u00e9ritabilit\u00e9 des niveaux de testost\u00e9rone chez les hommes et 13% de l&rsquo;h\u00e9ritabilit\u00e9 chez les femmes. L&rsquo;\u00e9tude a \u00e9galement r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 des diff\u00e9rences entre les sexes, certaines variantes montrant des directions d&rsquo;effets oppos\u00e9es. De plus, les r\u00e9sultats de cette \u00e9tude indiquent que la pr\u00e9disposition g\u00e9n\u00e9tique \u00e0 une testost\u00e9rone plus \u00e9lev\u00e9e est b\u00e9n\u00e9fique pour les hommes mais nocive pour les femmes.
