O sangue que foi enriquecido com oxig\u00eanio nos pulm\u00f5es entra no \u00e1trio esquerdo e flui para o ventr\u00edculo esquerdo, de onde \u00e9 bombeado para todas as outras partes do corpo. O volume sist\u00f3lico (VS) \u00e9 uma medida de quanto sangue \u00e9 bombeado para fora do ventr\u00edculo esquerdo durante cada batimento. O SV m\u00e9dio \u00e9 81mL para mulheres e 95mL para homens. As medi\u00e7\u00f5es do volume sist\u00f3lico podem indicar se o cora\u00e7\u00e3o est\u00e1 bombeando sangue suficiente para atender \u00e0s demandas do corpo. Este estudo de associa\u00e7\u00e3o do genoma de mais de 36.000 indiv\u00edduos de ascend\u00eancia europeia identificou 12 variantes gen\u00e9ticas correlacionadas com SV, incluindo variantes pr\u00f3ximas aos genes que desempenham um papel na contra\u00e7\u00e3o do m\u00fasculo card\u00edaco (MYH6) e forma\u00e7\u00e3o de vasos sangu\u00edneos (VEGFA). Juntas, essas variantes explicam ~ 34% da herdabilidade do volume sist\u00f3lico.
