Os c\u00e2nceres de mama s\u00e3o classificados de acordo com os receptores das c\u00e9lulas cancerosas do lado de fora. Esta classifica\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 \u00fatil para prever resultados e tratamentos eficazes. Os c\u00e2nceres do tipo B luminal t\u00eam receptores hormonais (progesterona, estrog\u00eanio ou ambos), bem como receptores do fator de crescimento epid\u00e9rmico humano 2 (HER2). Esses receptores permitem que as c\u00e9lulas cancerosas cres\u00e7am em resposta aos sinais de crescimento. Este estudo de associa\u00e7\u00e3o do genoma examinou quase 266.000 indiv\u00edduos de ascend\u00eancia europeia para identificar variantes gen\u00e9ticas associadas a diferentes tipos de c\u00e2ncer de mama, incluindo c\u00e2ncer de mama tipo B luminal. No total, os pesquisadores identificaram 330 regi\u00f5es gen\u00f4micas associadas a tipos de c\u00e2ncer de mama e as usaram para calcular pontua\u00e7\u00f5es polig\u00eanicas.
