A espessura da c\u00f3rnea \u00e9 um indicador bem estudado da sa\u00fade ocular e a espessura reduzida tem sido associada a doen\u00e7as oculares, como o glaucoma. Este estudo de associa\u00e7\u00e3o do genoma teve como objetivo identificar regi\u00f5es gen\u00f4micas ligadas \u00e0 espessura no centro da c\u00f3rnea. Ao examinar a informa\u00e7\u00e3o gen\u00e9tica de mais de 44.000 indiv\u00edduos de etnia branca n\u00e3o hisp\u00e2nica, hisp\u00e2nica, asi\u00e1tica e afro-americana, o estudo encontrou 98 regi\u00f5es do genoma associadas \u00e0 espessura central da c\u00f3rnea. Destes, 41 eram novos para este estudo. Juntas, todas as variantes neste estudo podem explicar cerca de 14% da varia\u00e7\u00e3o individual na espessura central da c\u00f3rnea. Algumas dessas variantes identificadas tamb\u00e9m foram associadas a doen\u00e7as oculares, incluindo ceratocone e glaucoma, ressaltando as conex\u00f5es entre a espessura da c\u00f3rnea e
