A maioria dos estudos que buscam variantes gen\u00e9ticas associadas ao \u00edndice de massa corporal (IMC) compara indiv\u00edduos obesos a controles saud\u00e1veis. Em vez disso, este estudo procurou associa\u00e7\u00f5es com magreza. Os pesquisadores compararam 1,9% das pessoas mais magras (6\u00ba percentil de IMC; 881 indiv\u00edduos) no biobanco da Est\u00f4nia com pessoas que tinham um peso corporal m\u00e9dio (30\u00ba &#8211; 50\u00ba percentil de IMC; 3.173 indiv\u00edduos) e encontraram 5 variantes associadas \u00e0 magreza. Uma das variantes (rs568057364) est\u00e1 dentro do gene ALK, que \u00e9 conhecido por desempenhar um papel no c\u00e2ncer.
