O sangue que foi enriquecido com oxig\u00eanio nos pulm\u00f5es entra no \u00e1trio esquerdo e flui para o ventr\u00edculo esquerdo, de onde \u00e9 bombeado para todas as outras partes do corpo. O volume diast\u00f3lico final do ventr\u00edculo esquerdo (LVEDV) \u00e9 o volume de sangue em um ventr\u00edculo esquerdo relaxado imediatamente antes de se contrair e bombear o sangue para o corpo. O LVEDV m\u00e9dio \u00e9 de 120mL para mulheres e 150mL para homens e pode ser usado como uma medida da sa\u00fade card\u00edaca. Este estudo de associa\u00e7\u00e3o do genoma examinou os genomas de 36.000 indiv\u00edduos de ascend\u00eancia europeia para entender melhor a base gen\u00e9tica do LVEDV. O estudo identificou 14 regi\u00f5es gen\u00f4micas associadas ao VDFVE ajustado para a \u00e1rea de superf\u00edcie corporal.
