Este estudo definiu especificamente a longevidade como viver mais de 90% das pessoas. Embora fatores como dieta e acesso a cuidados de sa\u00fade influenciem quanto tempo um indiv\u00edduo pode viver, a gen\u00e9tica tamb\u00e9m desempenha um papel importante na longevidade. Este estudo de associa\u00e7\u00e3o do genoma examinou mais de 36.000 indiv\u00edduos de ascend\u00eancia europeia para determinar os fatores gen\u00e9ticos associados \u00e0 longevidade. O estudo encontrou 10 variantes gen\u00e9ticas que est\u00e3o ligadas \u00e0 caracter\u00edstica, mas tamb\u00e9m ao tempo de vida dos pais e \u00e0 expectativa de sa\u00fade. A variante com a associa\u00e7\u00e3o mais forte (rs429358) est\u00e1 no gene APOE e est\u00e1 ligada \u00e0 doen\u00e7a de Alzheimer. Esta variante por si s\u00f3 d\u00e1 uma probabilidade ~ 1,7 maior de viver mais do que 90% das pessoas.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>VOC\u00ca SABIA?<\/strong> \u201cZonas azuis\u201d s\u00e3o locais em todo o mundo onde os indiv\u00edduos tendem a viver muito mais tempo do que a m\u00e9dia. Okinawa (Jap\u00e3o) e Ikaria (Gr\u00e9cia) s\u00e3o dois desses locais, onde uma alta porcentagem de habitantes vive at\u00e9 os 90 anos.
