Por exemplo, estudos anteriores descobriram que um aumento do ritmo de caminhada est\u00e1 associado a uma diminui\u00e7\u00e3o do risco de morte por doen\u00e7as cardiovasculares e v\u00e1rias formas de c\u00e2ncer. Para identificar os fatores gen\u00e9ticos que influenciam o ritmo de caminhada, este estudo envolveu mais de 450.000 indiv\u00edduos de ascend\u00eancia europeia. Depois de correlacionar a informa\u00e7\u00e3o gen\u00e9tica com velocidades de caminhada auto-relatadas, o estudo identificou 70 variantes gen\u00e9ticas associadas ao ritmo de caminhada, 11 das quais s\u00e3o novas. O estudo tamb\u00e9m examinou as conex\u00f5es entre o ritmo de caminhada e v\u00e1rias caracter\u00edsticas \/ condi\u00e7\u00f5es.
