Para algumas les\u00f5es, como fraturas de quadril, at\u00e9 90% ocorrem como resultado de quedas. Como muitos fatores que levam \u00e0 queda, como a cogni\u00e7\u00e3o e a fun\u00e7\u00e3o muscular, t\u00eam um componente gen\u00e9tico, este estudo buscou encontrar fatores gen\u00e9ticos diretamente associados ao aumento do risco de queda. O estudo examinou os genomas de mais de 450.000 indiv\u00edduos de ascend\u00eancia europeia e identificou 3 regi\u00f5es gen\u00f4micas associadas a um risco aumentado de queda. Diversas variantes foram localizadas em genes importantes para o desenvolvimento do c\u00f3rtex cerebral, regi\u00e3o com importantes fun\u00e7\u00f5es sensoriais e motoras. No geral, o estudo descobriu que quase 3% do risco de queda de um indiv\u00edduo pode ser determinado pela gen\u00e9tica.
