Para o cora\u00e7\u00e3o, o sistema que fornece seu sangue \u00e9 conhecido como circula\u00e7\u00e3o coron\u00e1ria. A doen\u00e7a arterial coronariana ocorre quando as art\u00e9rias coron\u00e1rias s\u00e3o danificadas ou doentes. Como consequ\u00eancia da diminui\u00e7\u00e3o do fluxo sangu\u00edneo, menos oxig\u00eanio pode chegar ao cora\u00e7\u00e3o. Com o tempo, isso pode resultar em ataques card\u00edacos, tornando a doen\u00e7a arterial coronariana a principal causa de morte para homens e mulheres. Para identificar os fatores gen\u00e9ticos que contribuem para o desenvolvimento da doen\u00e7a arterial coronariana, este estudo examinou mais de 168.000 indiv\u00edduos de ascend\u00eancia japonesa. Uma an\u00e1lise trans\u00e9tnica que tamb\u00e9m incluiu dados de europeus encontrou 175 regi\u00f5es gen\u00f4micas que est\u00e3o associadas \u00e0 doen\u00e7a em diferentes etnias. Isso incluiu 40 variantes gen\u00e9ticas que n\u00e3o eram conhecidas anteriormente.
