Embora n\u00e3o sejam cancer\u00edgenos, eles podem eventualmente causar bloqueio da passagem nasal, levando a problemas respirat\u00f3rios e perda do olfato. No momento da publica\u00e7\u00e3o deste estudo, nenhum fator de risco gen\u00e9tico para p\u00f3lipo nasal era conhecido. Este estudo examinou os genomas de mais de 700.000 indiv\u00edduos de ascend\u00eancia europeia e descobriu 10 variantes gen\u00e9ticas, muitos genes pr\u00f3ximos que desempenham um papel na inflama\u00e7\u00e3o.
