Esses co\u00e1gulos de sangue podem bloquear o fluxo sangu\u00edneo, resultando em incha\u00e7o doloroso dos membros. Os co\u00e1gulos sangu\u00edneos tamb\u00e9m podem viajar para os pulm\u00f5es, resultando em embolia pulmonar, uma condi\u00e7\u00e3o perigosa associada a alta mortalidade. Para entender melhor os fatores gen\u00e9ticos que contribuem para o risco de tromboembolismo venoso, este estudo de associa\u00e7\u00e3o do genoma examinou mais de 650.000 indiv\u00edduos de ascend\u00eancia europeia, africana e hisp\u00e2nica e descobriu 22 novas variantes gen\u00e9ticas.
