Embora NKTCL seja raro em popula\u00e7\u00f5es europeias, \u00e9 comum em indiv\u00edduos de ascend\u00eancia asi\u00e1tica e sul-americana. A infec\u00e7\u00e3o com o v\u00edrus Epstein-Barr foi previamente associada ao desenvolvimento de NKTCL. Outras evid\u00eancias sugerem que variantes gen\u00e9ticas dentro de um gene respons\u00e1vel pela regula\u00e7\u00e3o do sistema imunol\u00f3gico tamb\u00e9m contribuem para o desenvolvimento de NKTCL. Os pesquisadores que conduziram este estudo procuraram identificar novas variantes gen\u00e9ticas associadas ao NKTCL. Usando dados gen\u00f4micos de ~ 8.500 indiv\u00edduos de ascend\u00eancia chinesa Han, os pesquisadores identificaram 2 novas regi\u00f5es gen\u00e9ticas associadas com risco aumentado de desenvolver NKTCL. Essas regi\u00f5es gen\u00e9ticas desempenham um papel na inflama\u00e7\u00e3o e na regula\u00e7\u00e3o do sistema imunol\u00f3gico. Os resultados do estudo tamb\u00e9m foram replicados em coortes de outras partes do Leste Asi\u00e1tico, incluindo Hong Kong, Taiwan, Cingapura e Cor\u00e9ia do Sul.<br\/><\/p>\n\n<p><strong>VOC\u00ca SABIA?<\/strong> As c\u00e9lulas natural killer (NK) s\u00e3o um tipo de gl\u00f3bulo branco que desempenha um papel importante na resposta imune inata do corpo, fornecendo respostas r\u00e1pidas para matar c\u00e9lulas infectadas. He earned an M.S. and is currently a Ph.D. Candidate in the Biological and Biomedical Sciences (BBS) Ph.D. program at Harvard University.\u00a0He has experience in science policy as an intern at the Science and Innovation Network where he assisted in the science diplomacy functions of the British Consulate-General and as a research associate at TScan Therapeutics.
